Mildred Gleason Harris is elected to the Boston City Council.

The first woman elected to the Boston City Council, Harris wins a special election to fill the seat formerly held by her brother, Richard Gleason, representing Ward 9 (Roxbury-South End). She lives at 36 Guild Street and soon after moves to 115 Dale Street. Harris is reelected in November 1937 and serves until 1939.
